THE MINISTRY'S SERVICES
OFFICE OF THE PUBLIC DEFENDER
The Office was established by the Office of the Public Defender Law 2008 to handle civil and criminal matters. Its mandate includes the investigation of complaints or referrals made to it and to ensure the resolution of such cases through the most appropriate dispute resolution mechanism. The legal services rendered by this office is free in consonance with the global focus of providing justice to all. The office has within the one year of its existence received a total of 173 cases out of which 105 have been dispensed with.

CITIZEN'S MEDIATION CENTER
The Centre was established by the Citizens Mediation Centre Law 2008 to promote the use of mediation as against litigation in conflict resolution in Kwara State. The services rendered at the Centre are free and submission to dispute resolution at the Centre is voluntary.
The nature of disputes submitted for resolution at the Centre include; landlord & tenant disputes, employer & employee matters, domestic disputes, debt related matters, breach of contracts, human rights protection ,etc.
The Centre has been able to set a record of settlement of disputes within the earliest time possible. After the successful resolution of disputes between parties,the practice is to encourage the parties to register terms of settlement before the court for the purposes of enforcement.

OTHER SERVICES OF THE MINISTRY

1. JUSTICE ADVISORY DESK

It is a forum created as a one stop shop for all disputes for ordinary citizens of Kwara State. It operates as a referral desk to various resolutions forums. After complaints are received by the desk, such complaints are referred to the most appropriate quarters for settlement. The desk networks with the judiciary, police, Nigerian Bar Association and the prisons service in the performance of this duty.

2. PREROGATIVE OF MERCY COMMITTEE

This is a committee established to facilitate the exercise of the constitutional power of the Governor to grant pardon to condemned convicts. The Attorney General functions as the Chairman of the committee and the Director of Public Prosecutions, by virtue of schedule of duties is a member.

3. SALE OF REVISED LAWS OF KWARA STATE
The Ministry markets the laws of the State that were revised in 2006. A set of the laws is composed of six volumes in loose-leaf format.
